Dear Grayson High School Community,
Since our school opened in August of 2000, our school campus has grown and changed in order to better serve our students and our community. We have experienced a lot of growth in the past 19 years, and it is time to grow again! In the coming weeks, the school system will begin preparation for a new addition at our school. These improvements were funded as part of the 2015 Educational Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax, or ESPLOST, and are part of the school district's commitment to providing students the infrastructure and technological resources to advance teaching and learning. Our school will gain 44 additional instructional spaces in a three-story 125,000-plus foot addition. The new addition will include a designated space for our JROTC program, updated computer labs, science labs, large multi-purpose spaces, as well as traditional classrooms. The new addition is slated to be ready in the Fall of 2021.
In order to ensure that this much-needed classroom space is ready for our students and teachers on time, we will begin seeing changes to our campus in the coming weeks and over the summer. Two primary areas will be impacted.
1) Classrooms-- Approximately 30 portable classrooms will be relocated from the rear of the school to make room for the new addition. These portable classrooms will be placed in the student parking lot.
2) Parking-- As a result of the relocation of the portable classrooms, our school will lose approximately half of its current student parking lot.
I know we all will be excited about the new classroom space our school will be receiving; however, the reality is that the parking situation will be an inconvenience. As we know that more students would like to drive and park on campus next year than space will allow, our goal will be to ensure that all seniors have an opportunity to park on campus. Please see the attached parking application that outlines our new parking procedures for the 2019-2020 school year. The application is due to Mrs. Carrafa by Friday, May 17, 2019. We do ask for your patience and understanding as we go through this process. We know that the final product, a state-of-the art facility that will contribute to the tradition of excellence associated with Grayson High School, will be worth it.
